Creating space for biodiversity to thrive
DUCHY HOME FARM
At DHF, we believe nature and farming go hand in hand. Since our arrival, we’ve worked to create a landscape where wildlife and crops flourish side by side. Thanks to our efforts below, we’ve seen a remarkable rise in biodiversity including 12 red-listed bird species and over 50 bat species recorded on the farm. Our work has been recognised nationally, and we’re proud finalists in the Silver Pintail Award, hosted by FWAC a Gloucestershire based environmental competition.
Farming with wildlife in mind isn’t just good for the planet, it makes our landscape richer, more resilient, and full of life.
Restoring traditional hedgerows to provide food, shelter, and corridors for birds and small mammals.
As a certified organic farm, we use no artificial chemicals, protecting soil life and surrounding habitats.
Establishing new woodland pockets to enrich biodiversity and improve air quality.
Sowing seed-rich areas that offer vital food and shelter for farmland birds during colder months.
Creating vibrant field borders that support pollinators and enhance the beauty of our landscape.
We believe that as custodians of the land, it is our responsibility to leave it in a better condition than we found it. By nurturing the health of our environment, we are confident that both our farm and our business will thrive.
We practice cover cropping, direct drilling and multi-species rotations to keep soil covered, fertile and biologically active. Legumes fix nitrogen, grasses stabilise soils, herbs break compaction and attract pollinators- all without synthetic chemicals. After harvest, animals graze directly on crop residues, returning nutrients through natural grazing.
